GPUs get the spotlight in AI, but CPUs, the general-purpose chips that run ordinary code and everyday computing jobs, are in rising demand as AI agents take on more tasks. Anthropic has committed $11.6 billion over seven years to Akamai's cloud in a bet on that CPU capacity, and Akamai has granted it the right to buy up to about 5% of its stock, unlocked as Anthropic spends more.

Data centers are buildings full of servers that many online services depend on, and the war in Ukraine has turned them into targets on both sides. Russian drones strike Ukraine’s data centers by exploiting air defense gaps
Data centers hold the servers and network equipment that keep phone and internet service running, which is why strikes on Kyiv's facilities since late September knocked out service for around 100,000 households at one point. Ukrainian officials say Russia's newer jet-powered drones are much harder to intercept than earlier models and are asking allies for more air defense before winter.
