In macular degeneration, the light-sensing cells in the eye die but the rest of the retina's circuitry survives. The Prima system uses camera glasses and a pocket processor to convert video into near-infrared light, which a 378-pixel implant turns into electrical signals for the retina; the implant also powers itself like a solar cell. Over 80 percent of recipients could read again.

Quantum computers make frequent errors, so they need special states, called magic states, to run the gates that give them their power. The usual way to make those states can eat up most of the machine. Google researchers instead encoded one rough magic state on their Willow chip, checked it without destroying it, and grew it across more qubits, cutting errors about 40-fold.

Industrial robots usually stay bolted in place behind safety fences, repeating one task, so older rules did not cover machines that walk among people. South Korea has approved a pilot where 20 two-legged Robros humanoids clean chip components, place auto parts, stack shipyard material and move logistics packaging alongside workers. Companies must assess risks, and the data will shape future safety standards.

Stargardt disease kills the eye's light-sensing cells while the inner retina that signals the brain survives. Science Corporation's PRIMA is a two-millimeter chip placed at the back of the eye that acts like artificial photoreceptors, receiving images from camera-equipped glasses. The first Stargardt patient received it in a trial in Australia and later read a word in rehabilitation.

Factory robots usually repeat one fixed job, and retooling a line can take weeks. Industrial Next builds robotic stations that combine vision, task context and motion in foundation models, so a line can switch tasks in minutes; robots learn delicate, high-precision work largely in simulation. The ex-Tesla founders say BMW's technology office is evaluating the system.

Microsoft announced Maia 300, its third-generation chip for running AI in its data centers. The design splits compute, memory and input-output into separate pieces of silicon, and Microsoft says it delivers 40 percent more tokens per megawatt than leading GPU systems. Starting in 2027, it becomes the main system for serving Microsoft's AI products, reducing reliance on Nvidia.

Amazon runs more than one million robots in its warehouses, mostly wheeled machines that bring shelving pods to workers instead of making people walk the aisles. Newer robots like Proteus use sensors to move safely around people, and Amazon says machines take on the most physically punishing tasks. Researchers warn that robots working close to people can set the pace of the job.

Intel's GPU D270 is a data-center card built for running AI models rather than rendering graphics. Its LPDDR5X memory pool, up to 480 gigabytes in versions from partner manufacturers, keeps large models close to the processor. Intel lists 1.3 petaflops of FP8 math and 1.5 terabytes per second of memory bandwidth at 350 watts.
